Ellen Yu

Biography

Ellen Yu is the Chief Information Officer at Union College where she oversees Information Technology Services, which includes administrative computing functions, user services, networking, telecommunications and IT security.

She has spent over 30 years in higher education focusing on the appropriate application of technology in support of teaching and learning prior to becoming a CIO.  Prior to joining Union, she worked at the University of Maryland focusing specifically on educational technology.  Her career at Maryland grew from being the Coordinator of Instructional Technology Support to being the Director of Academic Support. She also served as Interim User Support Director while at Maryland. She has also served as the Instructional Multimedia Coordinator at North Dakota State University, setting up its first University Multimedia Center to help faculty integrate multimedia into their teaching.

Ellen has published and presented numerous articles pertaining to instructional technology with a particular focus on supporting faculty in their use of technology. More recently she has presented on consortial projects undertaken by the New York Six (NY6) Liberal Arts Consortium.  She is actively engaged with professional organizations and consortia including EDUCAUSE, NY6, and CLAC.

Ellen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Education in Education Policy, Planning, and Administration with a specialization in Curriculum Theory and Development from the University of Maryland.  Ellen is also a 2009 EDUCAUSE Frye Leadership Institute Fellow.
