Fred Thomsen
Biography
Since 2010 Fred has headed Krieger IT at the Johns Hopkins University Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. He came to Hopkins with more than 20 years experience in many capacities in academic computing. While earning his PhD in Folklore and Folklife Studies from the University of Pennsylvania Fred worked full time providing desktop support and network administration for the Penn Population Studies Center. He then spent three years as technical services coordinator for social science research computing at the University of Chicago, followed by 10 years as IT director at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC Chapel Hill. In his years at JHU he has worked to rethink and remake divisional IT to maximize limited resources while advancing teaching and research in the school.EDUCAUSE Presentations
