John Borwick

Biography

John Borwick has worked in higher education for his whole career: at Wake Forest University, as a systems administrator, IT manager, CSI manager, and PMO director; running his own company, Higher Education IT Management, where he consulted with institutions on IT service management, IT project management, IT governance, and IT process improvement; at Virginia Tech, as University Libraries IT director and IT process consultant to central IT; and now at TeamDynamix, as managing consultant for process improvement, where he provides process, tool, and management consulting.

John holds the PMP®, ITIL® Expert, and CGEIT® certifications. He has experience teaching an ITIL Foundations instructor and as a workshop leader and facilitator on topics such as building an IT service catalog, project management and task management, IT service change management in higher education, and conducting IT process improvements. He has been involved in higher education as president of the itSMF Higher Education Special Interest Group (SIG), chair of the EDUCAUSE ITSM constituent group (CG), and as a webinar presenter for these groups along with the EDUCAUSE project management CG.

 

John graduated summa cum laude from NC State University’s Benjamin Franklin Scholars program with a B.S. in computer science and a B.A. in English. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. John's career goal is to make people’s lives easier by improving how higher education IT is managed.
