Kay Rhodes

Biography

Kay has retired and is currently serving as Special Advisor/Acting CIO.

As the Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO for the Texas Tech University System, Kay focused on strategies, support and oversight of enterprise systems during her tenure. Her involvement and appointment with state organizations/committees, vendor partnerships, and professional development organizations have provided her considerable experience in communication, collaboration, strategic planning, and understanding the broader needs for higher education. 

She works jointly with the CIOs from Texas Tech University (TTU), Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso (TTUHSC EP), and Angelo State University (ASU) and chairs the CIO Council. The CIOs work collaboratively through the CIO Council to coordinate IT direction, strategic plans, risk assessments and policies for the Texas Tech entities as well as IT related compliance and reporting for the state of Texas. 

Kay oversees TTU System information technology departments supporting the enterprise application environment, data center and telephony needs. She provides oversight for the Enterprise Application Organization which is responsible for the direction, stability, and functionality of the Texas Tech ERP environment.

Kay is an active participant in Educause and previously served on the EDUCAUSE Board. She serves on the Information Technology Council for Higher Education (ITCHE) for the state of Texas, Lone Star Education and Research Network (LEARN) Board and is active with key vendor partners. Prior to Texas Tech, Kay worked as a programmer analyst in the private sector. Kay received her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Baylor University.
