Sandy Schaeffer

Biography

Sandy Schaeffer is currently leading a quality renewal effort of all the fully online programs offered by the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. Prior to that he directed the Advanced Learning Center at that same institution providing campus-wide leadership on instructional technology strategies and services. Before to coming to higher education, Dr. Schaeffer spent 20+ years as an IT industry professional with involvement in multiple industries, application development initiatives, and leadership roles. His industry work included 7 years with IBM and as founder and CTO of Memphis-based ThoughtWare Technologies, an e-learning and workforce development software company. He has an EdD in Higher & Adult Education and a Masters Degree in Mathematics/Computer Science - both from the University of Memphis. He also earned a BS in Biology from Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis). His current research interests include: (1) the study of factors that engage faculty in the development of new instructional skills and (2) higher education economics and the opportunity to realize institutional efficiency and quality improvement through information technology.
