Bill Barnett

Biography

Bill Barnett is responsible for leading the development of research technologies for research communities, particulalry focusing life sciences research (clinical, translational, genomic) and genomic and grid computing programs. He oversees programs that provide research portals and high performance computing-based applications for advanced biological and medical research at Indiana University and for the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he is the Director of the Advanced IT Core. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in Medical and Molecular Genetics at the IU School of Medicine. He is the Co-Director for Translational Informatics for the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) and oversees development of the Indiana CTSI HUB web portal (www.indianactsi.org). He also the director of the National Center for Genome Analysis Support (www.ncgas.org). He oversees information security strategy for research systems, including HIPAA for human subjects research, and is Associate Director in the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research in the Pervasive Technology Institute at Indiana University. He also leads the Grid Operations Center for the Open Science Grid. He is a member of the Indiana University Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP).

    This series is a publication of the ECAR Campus Cyberinfrastructure (ECAR-CCI) Working Group. The topic of big data continues to receive a great deal of publicity because of its promise for opening new avenues of scholarly discovery and commercial opportunity.
