Adriane Hankerson

Biography

I am a career internal auditor for almost 30 years. I have worked in internal audit with organizations in various industries. I am a Certified Internal Auditor(CIA) and Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). I worked alongside IT Auditors in my role as Senior SOX Analyst at Citrix Systems for 2 years and practiced under a Certified information Systems Auditor (CISA) for 2 years. In October 2019, I passed the Certified Information Systems Auditor exam and became a CISA shortly thereafter. Prior to that, I joined the Internal Audit team in higher education at Wake Technical Community College.

I became an Educause member to become more aware of IT related issues impacting colleges and universities. Since then, I have become responsible for the annual assessment of the effectiveness of our IT General Controls within the state of North Carolina. We follow a COSO-based Enhancing Accountability in Government through Leadership and Education (EAGLE) Framework. Annually, I also review SOC 1 and/or 2 reports from our service providers to ensure the controls for those 3rd parties are adequate.

I am pursing a degree in the Cybersecurity program at Western Governors University online. I am currently preparing for the Security + and A+ certifications through CompTIA. I hope to successfully complete the testing for those certifications this Fall and next Spring. I believe that to be an effective Internal Audit professional, I must keep pace with the changing landscape of the professional world which is becoming more and more IT centric. That goal is in the forefront of my mind as I shift my focus to a horizon of innovative promises for a world with endless possibilities. I'm honored to be among likeminded professions who are shaping the world through IT.
