I have worked in Higher Education for nearly 15 years and have been involved in the specific area of online learning and distance education at Penn State for the past ten years. I have worked with all phases of instructional design, including needs assessment, design and development, implementation, and evaluation. I have worked with a variety of technologies, including various learning management systems and other technologies related to web design for learning environments.
I am currently a Manager of Instructional Design with the Penn State World Campus where I lead and supervise a 10-person team of Instructional Designers and Instructional Production Specialists to design, develop, maintain and support over 125 online undergraduate and graduate courses. I am part of the unit management team and am involved closely with strategic initiatives related to content repositories, reusable learning objects, enhanced media in course design, design flexibility, quality, and scalability.
I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Learning, Design, and Technology at Penn State working on a study focusing on learners' experiences in their required online course discussions. Prior to working in online distance education, I taught for-credit academic courses in the Penn State Communication Arts and Sciences department in both face-to-face and blended modes.
