Andy Casiello

Biography

As Associate Vice President for the Office of Distance Learning, Casiello is responsible for ODU’s Distance Learning organization, which delivers 70 degree programs servicing one-fifth of the University’s entire student population at 40 locations, and to homes, offices, military facilities, and other institutions worldwide. The University’s Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT), a center for excellence and innovation in instructional design and technology also falls within this organization. Casiello is responsible for managing the systems and operations that integrate technology with pedagogy for synchronous and asynchronous online distance education classes. Prior to being named to his current position, Casiello held the position of Associate Vice President for Academic Technology Services at ODU. In that capacity he was responsible for a wide range of technological systems and services for the University including satellite, Internet and other media based distance education networks and studios as well as the video production operation, graphics and multimedia development teams. Previously, Casiello held the position of Vice President of Technology for National Technological University (NTU – now part of Walden University) in Fort Collins, Colorado. While he held the position of Acting Director at the University of Massachusetts, Casiello was presented with t he College of Engineering’s Distinguished Service award for 1992. Casiello was later honored with NTU’s Outstanding Achievement award (1998) for the construction of NTU’s headquarters uplink and on-demand video transmission center. Casiello is currently working toward a PhD in Higher Education Administration at Old Dominion University. He holds an associate degree (AS) in Telecommunications Technology from Springfield Technical Community Colleges, in Springfield, MA, a bachelor’s (BS) degree in Communications from Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and a Master of Science degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. Casiello recently completed the Management Development Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
