Andy Chun

Biography

Dr. Chun is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the City University of Hong Kong. As CIO, Dr. Chun defined a new vision of using technology to transform the education experience at CityU, enabling a wide range of innovative pedagogical approaches to be adopted. Dr. Chun received the 2012 Hong Kong CIO Award for Medium Enterprises, from Computerworld Hong Kong and CIO Connect. Under Dr. Chun's leadership, CityU was named one of the 2012 Computerworld Honors Laureates and one of the top 5 Finalists for the 21st Century Achievement Awards in Digital Access. In 2012, Dr. Chun was one of 5 recipients of the 12th annual "CIO Award" from the CIO Asia magazine. In 2011, Dr. Chun was selected as one of the "2010 Top 5 CIOs" in Greater China, in the annual "Top China CIO Awards." Dr. Chun has close to three decades of experience in higher education, IT R&D, and management. His research work on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enterprise optimization has been honored with numerous ICT awards, including six Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) Awards from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the Asia-Pacific ICT Award (APICTA), and the IT Excellence Award from the Hong Kong Computer Society. In 2009, the Hong Kong Computer Society further honored Dr. Chun with two Outstanding IT Achiever Awards (OITAA) – one for research excellence and another for IT professional excellence. Dr. Chun holds a B.Sc. from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
