Ann Hoang

Biography

Ann D. Hoang is the University Librarian at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where she is the chief library administrator overseeing two research libraries. She is responsible for leading and promoting excellence across the organization, enhancing the quality of programs, and advocating for the library locally, regionally, and nationally. Ann is committed to fostering an organizational climate based on respect, transparency, service, results, teamwork, diversity, inclusion, collaboration, and innovation.

Previously she held leadership roles as Assistant University Librarian at NJIT, Assistant Director at Brookdale Community College, and Library Supervisor at Rutgers University Libraries. Ann received her MBA, MLIS, and B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University. She is also a graduate of McKinsey’s Management Accelerator: Asian Leadership Academy program.

Ann’s 30+ years of experience in academic libraries, primarily in administration, management, and systems/IT, have instilled a solid value in service excellence, cooperation, and collaboration. A subtle change agent, Ann is passionate about empowering library staff to navigate the future. Her professional interests include open educational resources, library information technology and systems, staff development, and assessment of library services. Her growth as a leader and views of leadership are nuanced and informed by her experiences as an American immigrant and a Vietnamese refugee.

She is currently a member, ALA, ACRL, CORE, NJLA, VALE, and EDUCAUSE, and serves on several campus committees.
