Biography

Artemis Preeshl, a 4-time Fulbrighter in India and Pakistan, directs stage, film, and intimacy, coaches dialects, and teaches performance. Presently, Dr. Preeshl directs the Center of Teaching, Innovation, and Research at Adams State University. Routledge published  Consent in Shakespeare’s Classical Mediterranean: Women Speak Truth to Power (2025), Consent in Shakespeare: What Women Do and Don’t Say and Do in Shakespeare’s Mediterranean Comedies and Origin Stories (2021), Shakespeare and Commedia dell'arte: Play by Play (2017), and Acting in the Digital Age (2019), Here papers on consent have been presented at World Shakespeare Congress, Shakespeare Association of America, Renaissance Society of America, American Boccaccio Association, Armenian Shakespeare Association, Renaissance Society of America, and Asian Shakespeare Association, and the Shakespeare Association of Korea. She has directed 4 films: Pancha Ratna (Honorable Mention in Best World Cinema at Hollywood’s DIY Film Festival), Dr. Chevalier’s Lie, Inachevé, and Ripe Figs (Best Short at Raleigh Film Festival). Her performance in the film of her one-woman, Dead While I Was Alive, was awarded Best Drama at the Close Film Festival. The Voice and Speech Review published “Gullah-Geechee Accents in English on Sapelo and Daufuskie Islands,” “Virtual Voice,” "Yat, Uptown, and Cajun Accents in English" and “American Elizabethan: Sea Island Residents Talk,” and “The Virtual Voice.”  Having taught in Africa, Asia, & Europe, she has taught at Elon University, Institute of Shipboard Education, Central University of Tamil Nadu, the University of Madras, University of West Georgia, Iowa Central Community College, Utah State University, & Loyola University New Orleans, where she was an Associate Professor for 5 years, with tenure. The Delmas Foundation funded her research on Eleonora Duse at the Cini, through which she presented “At First Blush: Eleonora Duse in Shakespeare” at the Asian Shakespeare Association. The American Boccaccio Association invited Dr. Preeshl to participate in its 2022 Paleography Seminar at the Vatican in Rome and key libraries in Florence. Dr. Preeshl served as the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Buena Vista University. From 2013-2023, she represented New Orleans on the SAG-AFTRA Local Board Member.
