Asbed Bedrossian is Director of Enterprise Middleware Applications in the University of Southern California's Information Technology Services Division. Responsibilities have encompassed from high performance computing, to enterprise infrastructure and platform support, enterprise application support, application and middleware development, identity and access management architecture and operations, data center operations, computer hardware, student information services and operations, and project and service management. Asbed has a Masters degree in Computer Engineering (MSEE) from USC, as well as a Master in Fine Arts (MFA) from USC's School of Cinematic Arts in film production.

Higher education IT is in the midst of an exciting transformation. The economies of scale, resiliency, flexibility, and agility provided by cloud computing are rendering the construction and maintenance of on-premises data centers obsolete.
In February 2009, a joint workshop of the EDUCAUSE Advanced Core Technologies Initiative Campus Cyberinfrastructure Working Group (ACTI-CCI) and the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation (CASC) issued a report and recommendations that addressed the challenges and strategies for developing a coherent cyberinfrastructure from local campus to national facilities.
