Biography

I serve as inaugural Chief Student Success Officer at Clemson University. My academic interests relate to fostering motivation and achievement in higher education. My professional interests relate to supporting the statistical literacy, technological frameworks, and research methods needed to understand students' goals and characteristics so that we can engineer properly aligned learning environments that facilitate student achievement. In the past year, I have served as a reviewer for the US Department of Education Postsecondary Success Recognition Program, as an invited speaker to the AASCU Symposium on Provost/CIO Collaboration for Innovation and Student Success, and as an invited instructor on Building a Data-Informed Culture for EDUCAUSE’s Executive Leadership Academy.

Prior to this, I've served as Assistant Head of the Department of Mathematics (Purdue University), inaugural Director for Institutional Effectiveness (Purdue University), and inaugural Chief Data Officer (Clemson University).

I've also taught 28 different courses (mainly mathematics, statistics, and education) over the last 23 years to over 5,000 students at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. In addition, through research or as a practicing teacher, I've taught math to elementary school students with learning disabilities, general math for middle school and high school students, and functional life skills for teenagers and young adults with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities and autism. I actively consult in the development of curricula and assessments for online programs and currently teach inferential statistics for undergraduates and courses related to STEM education for graduate students. I believe in helping any student achieve their academic goals.

Otherwise, I'm an avid tennis player, runner, guitarist, and scout leader.
