Bill Balint

Biography

Bill Balint has 34 years of higher education IT experience and more than 35 years of industry experience overall.  He is the founding CIO at IUP and serves as Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Technical Executive for Central Administration.  He has presented over 60 times on 11 different topics spanning the breadth of higher education IT at regional, state, national and international events. He has appeared in more than 30 publications in the forms of essays, interviews and expert comments.  Bill was selected as the Pittsburgh CIO of the Year for Education in 2016 and guided IUP to the 2020 Pittsburgh Tech 50 Award for Best Covid-19 Pivot.

He was a co-founder of the Pennsylvania Banner User Group (PABUG), served as PABUG president and created the PABUG Technology Days event. Bill is a Pittsburgh CIO Executive Summit governing board member, is a member of the Pa. State System (PASSHE) Chief Information Technology Officers (CITO) group, the Greater Pittsburgh CIO Group, the Pittsburgh CIO Inner Circle and served on the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER) Board of Directors. He has also been a program committee member for Educause Mid-Atlantic and Internet2/InCommon Technology Exchange events and on the steering committe at the CIO Visions Leadership Summit.
