Biography

Robert W. Sams Director, ANR Communication Services and Information Technology Bob Sams is the Director of Communication Services and Information Technology for the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) of the University of California. He has a B.A. in American Literature from Penn State, an M.A. in Folklore from Indiana University, and a B.S. in Agronomy, also from Penn State. Since joining the University of California in 1995, Sams has been responsible for the production, distribution, and marketing of peer-reviewed educational materials and publications as well as for information technology and networking support to ANR's county offices, research and extension centers totaling more than 70 off-campus locations. Supporting more than 300 academics, Communication Services publishes, promotes, and distributes more than 1200 educational titles. The unit also provides web support, e-commerce services, media services, hosts more than 300 web sites, applications development, and provides value-added professional communications consulting and expertise to ANR people and programs. Sams holds responsible positions in national organizations including the Association for Communications Excellence (ACE) and the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC). He has served on university-wide committees and task forces addressing electronic communications policy, communications planning, distance learning, and educational networking in California. Bob and his spouse Judith live in Davis and have two adult children.
