Brian Hopkins

Biography

Brian W. Hopkins is the Deputy CIO for Academic Computing at the University of Mississippi, with responsibility for the University's instructional technology and IT support for the Division of Outreach. A two-time graduate of the University of Mississippi (BS '01, PhD '06) and a computational chemist by training, Brian first became involved in academic technology and technology education as an NSF GK-8 Teaching Fellow in 2002. His interest in these topics deepened throughout his graduate years, and when his time with the UM GK-8 project ended he took a graduate assistantship at the Mississippi Center for Supercomputing Research (MCSR) in 2005. After two years as a postdoc in molecular simulation at the University of Utah, Brian came home to work at MCSR in 2008. He was the Center's Director from October 2010 through July 2016, with primary responsibility for the Center's statewide mission to provide comprehensive high performance computing services to researchers at all of Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning. He remains deeply interested in the many ways that information technology can advance the teaching and research missions of the university.
