Biography

Dr. Carl Powell serves as Executive Consultant for CIO Doctor, LLC, a technology and management consulting firm designed to help CIOs succeed.  He is a seasoned information technology leader with extensive experience in executive leadership, strategic planning, interpersonal communications, and project management.  He is an energetic leader, a proficient communicator, and an effective motivator.  

Carl also serves as an Executive Search Consultant to Harris Search Associates on senior leadership and information technology related assignments providing insight, national relationships, and vetting of candidates on behalf of client institution committees and our firm. 

Carl has held several CIO positions over his career, including Columbus Metropolitan Library, Eastern Michigan University, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.  He has also held technology management positions at IBM, KeyBank, and Medical Mutual, and consulted for Cynegies Solutions Group.

Previously certified as a Project Management Professional and a Certified Information Security Manager, Dr. Powell holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a master’s degree from Kent State University, and a doctorate from Cleveland State University.
