Cat Flippen

Biography

Catherine "Cat" Flippen is the Educational Technology Training Coordinator for the Center for Teaching Excellence at Georgia Gwinnett College. As the Georgia Foreign Language Teacher of the Year 2014 and a 2014 Emerging Leader with the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE), Cat is widely recognized for her practical educational applications of mobile communication, social media, and blended learning as well as her ground-breaking implementation and evaluation of gamification and game-based learning in the classroom. Currently working on her doctoral dissertation in the field of Educational Technology with the University of Florida, Cat's current research and practical interests include social media as a tool for educators, game-based learning and gamification, wearable technology, mobile learning and early adoption of emergent technology. Cat is a Google Certified Teacher, a CUE (Computer Using Educators) Lead Learner, a Google GLASS explorer and the co-leader of the Google Educator Group for Georgia. She is a founding member and director of EdCamp Atlanta, an annual un-conference, as well as facilitator for several other Georgia-based EdCamps, including EdCamp Rome and EdCamp Gwinnett. Cat is a co-organizer for the Atlanta chapter of EdTechWomen and advocates openly for more women within educational and information technology. She presents and participates in several events and conferences throughout the year.
