Jerry Sun
Biography
Jerry Chih-Yuan Sun is a post doctoral fellow at the Center for Scholarly Technology. He specializes in assessing new educational tools, distance learning, e-learning, and technology-enhanced learning, as well as in examining how these learning environments affect student learning and engagement. In line with USC's signature of future directions in assessment, Jerry's responsibilities include conducting formative and summative assessments to study the impact of USC's educational tools such as e-Portfolio, Blackboard, and clickers on student learning in order to foster a learner-centered environment and encourage a collaborative mode of learning. Jerry received an M.S. in Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. in Computer Science from USC. He completed his Doctorate in Education at the USC Rossier School of Education in July 2009. In his dissertation project, he surveyed USC students enrolled in online courses provided by Schools of Gerontology and Engineering in Fall 2008, and investigated the relationship between studentsâ motivational factors and their levels of engagement behind USC's distance education system. Jerry was previously employed as a Systems Analyst of the USC Davis School of Gerontology's IT Division for 4 years. He had been an integral part for developing and maintaining the Davis School's distance learning programs to support faculty, staff, and students' academic needs. A Multimedia Learning Tool, developed in conjunction with others, received a grant from the National Science Foundation to add an assessment component to the existing educational tool. Prior to joining the USC's Davis School, Jerry worked in the telecommunication industry as an application developer for various online commercial applications. He was a Teaching Assistant Fellow of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and worked as a TA and a Blackboard course developer of an education psychology course prior to joining the Center for Scholarly Technology in the Summer of 2009.EDUCAUSE Presentations
