Chris Whittaker
Biography
Chris Whittaker completed a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University, an M.S.W. (master’s degree in social work) from The University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Education Sciences (Didactique) at the University of Montreal. Chris has been teaching physics at Dawson College since 1999 and is the driving force behind the design and development of an array of Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs) at Dawson - including several technology-rich classrooms that incorporate innovative table design and student dedicated Interactive White Boards for collaborative student-centred learning. He is currently co-coordinator of the Enriched Science Program and is the co-founder of the Dawson Active Learning Community. In addition to his roles at Dawson, Chris is also a co-Director of SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education: www.saltise.ca) and since 2009 he has also been active in research in the fields of the learning sciences and physics education. Chris is a SMART Certified Trainer and has been recognized for his teaching, classroom design, and leadership with awards at the institutional, provincial, and national levels.
