Christine Sexton is Director of Corporate Information and Computing Services at
the University of Sheffield. She came to the University in 1974 as a student to study
Genetics. After graduating, Sexton undertook a PhD, and then 3 years of postdoctoral
research. The need for a permanent job (and steady income!) then took over, and she
joined the Academic Secretary's Office in 1983. She worked in the Committee
Secretariat initially, and then Academic Planning. After a brief spell as
Undergraduate Student Officer, Sexton became Head of Administration of the
Faculty of Medicine in 1989. This was a post she thoroughly enjoyed, but 6 years
later she felt that the time had come for a new challenge, and she became Director
of the newly formed Department of Corporate Information in January 1996.
Later that year the Department merged with Academic Computing Services to
form the Department of Corporate Information and Computing Services (CiCS).
