Biography

Claudia A. Perry, Ph.D., Rutgers University. Dr. Perry is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS), Queen College, CUNY, where she teaches courses in Managing New Technologies, Science and Technology Sources and Services, and Digital Imaging. Student work in the latter course has resulted in the creation of the “Waterways of New York” postcard collection, using CONTENTdm digital collections management software. The database contains approximately 350 cards with detailed metadata, and can be viewed at http://qcpages.qc.edu/GSLIS/digitization.html . She is currently exploring uses of ePortfolios for assessment and learning in conjunction with colleagues involved in an ePortfolio Mini-Grant & Seminar Program supported by LaGuardiaCommunity College, CUNY, and The Fund for Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE). Research and professional interests center around the evolving nature of emerging technologies, especially digitization, and the challenges and opportunities presented by the use of digitally-based information technologies in libraries, museums, other cultural institutions and the society at large. Other areas of interest include scholarly and scientific communication, particularly across disciplinary boundaries, effective instructional techniques in the use of educational technology, and hands-on approaches to learning. Dr. Perry is especially honored to have been chosen to receive the 2005 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Queens College, a tribute to the excellent students in the GSLIS. She served as the Acting Director of the Queens College Center for Teaching and Learning for the Spring 2009 semester, and will again in the Spring 2010 semester.
