Cynthia Amyot

Biography

Dr. Amyot completed her associate degree in dental hygiene at Ferris State University in 1976. She earned her baccalaureate degree and Master of Science degrees in dental hygiene at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and in the spring of 2003 completed her doctorate in higher education administration also from UMKC. She has been a full-time faculty member at UMKC since 1993 serving three years as director of graduate and degree completion studies (1999-2002) and currently serves as director of the Division of Dental Hygiene. Dr. Amyot has published in several peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests include: portfolio assessment of student competency, oral health-related quality of life, dental and dental hygiene fears, among others. She teaches at all levels of the curriculum at the dental school; predoctoral, graduate and undergraduate. She has been the recipient of numerous Distinguished Teaching Awards from the School of Dentistry. Her service to the university and profession is extensive. She has served as Chair of the Council on Research for the American Dental Hygienists’ Association for several years. Dr. Amyot has been an educational consultant for the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. She has held several offices in the UMKC Alumni Association, with her most recent being Chair of the Communications Committee and Vice President of the Governing Board. She currently serves on the American Dental Education Associate Council of Allied Program Directors. She recently received the prestigious Pfizer/ADHA Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene in recognition of her efforts in distance education and distance learning.
