Cynthia Humes

Biography

Cynthia Ann Humes began her academic career at Claremont McKenna College in 1990 as a professor of Religious Studies. She eventually grew more involved in education and educational technology, becoming director of the Teaching Resource Center in 1999. In 2000-1, Cynthia chaired the Information Technology Strategic Planning Committee at Claremont McKenna. She was named Associate Dean for Academic Computing as well in 2001, and began to direct Educational Technology Services at the College. In Spring, 2002, she began to direct a Fluency in Information Technology initiative at Claremont McKenna College, sponsored by a $1.3 million grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies. In the summer of 2002, she was named director of a consortial grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for The Claremont Colleges, in which she played a significant role in cross-college cooperative educational technology efforts. In 2005, she was named Chief Technology Officer of Claremont McKenna College and she now directs all IT efforts for the institution. Cynthia completed her Ph.D. in Asian Religions at the University of Iowa, where she specialized in Sanskrit literature and Indic religions. She has been a research scholar at Banaras Hindu University, and is a Foreign Language Area Studies, Fulbright, NEH, Woodrow Wilson, and American Institute of Indian Studies Fellow.
