Dan Pell
Biography
Dan Pell (he/him) is a teaching, learning, and technology consultant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a passionate commitment to making higher education fairer, more accessible, and more effective for all. His work focuses on curricular design and course transformation, building the capacity of academic programs to deliver high-quality, inclusive learning experiences; and on developing asynchronous approaches to instructor development through reflective practice. His work is grounded in two decades of experience as an instructor of English language and writing, with particular emphasis on language assessment and teacher training. He received his doctorate in English from Ulster University in Northern Ireland in 2001. He has taught and trained teachers in Morocco, Algeria, China, Turkey, India, and the United Kingdom, and volunteered for VSO – an international NGO which works to empower people living in some of the world’s poorest and fragile regions and to create lasting change through volunteering. He is also active in the Teaching Academy at UW–Madison, an organization which promotes, recognizes, and supports excellence in teaching and learning. Outside of work, he enjoys time in boats, finding his voice in fiction, learning (many) languages, and playing the Irish fiddle.
