David Bauer
Biography
David Bauer leads academic, research, and emerging technology strategy at the University of Dayton, a Catholic Marianist research institution in Dayton, Ohio. He oversees teams spanning academic systems and support, learning and classroom technologies, application development and UX, academic research systems, and AI applications and services — driving integrated digital transformation across teaching, learning, and research operations.
David's portfolio centers on the strategic adoption of emerging technologies in higher education, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and immersive learning environments. He serves as a product owner for key academic platforms, champions the responsible integration of AI into faculty instruction and research workflows, and leads institution-wide efforts to align emerging technology initiatives with UD's Catholic Marianist mission and values.
He co-chairs UD's AI Oversight Committee and is a central voice in shaping enterprise AI governance, policy, and faculty enablement. David is also an active contributor to the open-source higher education community, including as a founding contributor to LTI Forge, a newly launched Apereo Incubation Project building collaborative, LMS-agnostic LTI tools to fill feature gaps in enterprise learning platforms and reduce siloed development across institutions.
His professional interests span AI ethics and governance in higher education, immersive and XR technologies, open-source academic tooling and LTI standards, LMS ecosystem strategy, academic technology organizational design, and the intersection of research technology with emerging platforms.
