David Demers

Biography

David Demers is the Chief Information Officer for the University of Maine System. As CIO, he oversees the unified IT services organization which serves the entire University of Maine system. Prior to his appointment with the University of Maine System, he served as the CIO and VP for Enrollment, Marketing and Communication at SUNY Buffalo State.  Dr. Demers also previously served as Chief Operating Officer for The American Women's College Online at Bay Path University where he managed the development of the innovative S.O.U.L. (Social Online Universal Learning) learning environment. Prior to this, he was Vice President for Academic and Administrative Technology at Bay Path College from 2009-2013 where he provided strategic vision and oversight of technology resources to support teaching and learning, student information systems, telecommunications and business systems. Demers has focused his career on the effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning as a research topic and helped develop and deliver online programs at the University of Hartford (1999-2001), the University of Connecticut (2001-2005) and Sacred Heart University where he served as Director of Instructional Technology and Online Learning (2005-2009). Demers has a long history of scholarship having published articles in the International Journal on E-Learning, Family Medicine and Gene as well as textbooks and electronic resource guides for W.W. Norton & Co. and Allyn & Bacon. He has also been an active participant in and presented at Educause Annual Conferences and NERCOMP regional conferences. Demers completed his B.S. and Ph.D. at the University of California at Riverside where he pursued research interests in the field of Cell and Molecular Biology.
