David Mulford

Biography

As an Ed Tech and IT industry veteran of 30 years, David has decades of varied experience in AV, IT, and Instructional Design leadership, with a current focus on AI research and deployment in higher education. He possesses skillsets in leadership, IT consulting, AV design, learning management systems, and online pedagogy aligned with Quality Matters and Universal Design for Learning principles. David is a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and this philosophy informs his AI, AV, IT, and ID projects.

Throughout his career, David has held leadership roles actively supporting learning communities at various institutions, including Kenyon College (OH), Roanoke College (VA), James Madison University (VA), Johnston Community College (NC), and Campbell University (NC). In these roles, he has spearheaded initiatives to integrate various technologies into educational processes, enhancing student learning experiences and outcomes. He worked as a Business Analyst for LDDS/MCI Worldcom prior to his work in Higher Education. 

As an active practitioner, David has instructed undergraduate Communications courses in-person, hybrid, and online at Roanoke College, Virginia Western Community College, James Madison University, and Johnston Community College. He currently provides instructional technology consulting and support to faculty and staff at Campbell University.

David excels at business strategy, leading teams, managing AV and IT integration projects, overseeing LMS operation and training, designing hybrid and online courses around UDL and QM principles, and delivering instructional technology training and development. His expertise in change management has been instrumental in helping to drive innovation and enhancing the educational landscape at the institutions where he has served.

In addition to his professional achievements, David is a former broadcast engineer, opera singer, contra dancer, and triathlete, showcasing his diverse range of interests and experiences.
