Deb Bickford

Biography

Deborah Bickford is the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Learning Initiatives, overseeing programs and services that support the university mission by enhancing learning, teaching, promoting the professional development and engagement of students, faculty, and staff, and integrating learning and living in community. As the Director of the Ryan C. Harris Learning Teaching Center, she collaborates with colleagues to foster innovations in learning and teaching. She is also a professor of Management in the School of Business Administration where she has taught various courses in the areas of strategy and leadership. Her current research interests focus on the impact of physical space on learning, and on connected and active learning. With Nancy Chism, she co-edited The Importance of Physical Space in Creating Supportive Learning Environments. New Directions for Teaching and Learning series, issue 92. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, Winter 2002. An article on learning in community, co-authored with David Wright appears in Educause’s latest e-book entitled Learning Spaces. She’s been at UD for 20 years.
