Biography
Donna M. Murphy holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Virginia and an M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Kansas. She has spent over 30 years involved in the field of special education, having worked as a classroom teacher, a professor, a supervisor of pre-service and in-service teachers, a researcher and published scholar, and a consultant. As a result of her training, her professional responsibilities, and her personal experience, Professor Murphy holds a keen interest in neurobehavioral disorders in children and adolescents, such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Tourette Syndrome, and she maintains familiarity with current research in the field. Other significant professional interests include classroom applications of empirically validated teaching and behavior-management techniques, the teaching of reading and other language arts, strategic revision in and accreditation of teacher preparation programs, and applications of educational technology in higher education. Her most recent efforts in this latter area involve developing the first fully-online graduate program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, which opened in Fall 2001, and serving as Assistant Chairperson for the President’s Virtual World Task Force to establish a presence for that university in Second Life.EDUCAUSE Presentations
