Ed Barboni

Biography

Dr. Barboni received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Cornell University in 1976 with specializations in statistics and mathematical modeling of complex systems. After serving for a year as a research associate at Cornell, he was a faculty member and senior administrative planner at both Grinnell College (IA) from 1977 to 1987 and Allegheny College (PA) from 1987 to 1991. He also served as the Director of Technology Integration for the NASA Classroom of the Future and the National Technology Transfer Center projects at Wheeling Jesuit University from 1991 to 1992. Since then, Ed has been an independent consultant working exclusively with small, independent colleges and universities, and, since 1997, almost exclusively with collaborative groups of independent colleges.Ed is currently the Senior Advisor to the Council of Independent Colleges on technology-related initiatives. (CIC is a national association of over five hundred independent colleges and universities.) In addition to facilitating technology-related projects generally for CIC he also serves as the liaison between CIC and EDUCAUSE which have been building a productive collaboration over the past several years.Ed's independent consulting work has given him the opportunity to meet with board members, presidents, senior and other administrators, faculty, staff, and students from over one hundred twenty-five independent colleges since 1992 to assess their needs and discover what works with respect to technology design, implementation, and management and the effective use of digital tools to enhance learning, teaching, and administrative processes. He also has the opportunity to keep his finger on the pulse of change among independent colleges through the state-based collaborations he facilitates and the national programs he designs for enhancing learning and services with technology.
