Eric Himes

Biography

Eric Himes is the Senior Director of AI & Innovation at Marshall University, where he leads information technology efforts supporting the university's artificial intelligence strategy and adoption initiatives. Working in partnership with Marshall's Chief Academic AI Officer and the university's AI Task Force, he helps guide the development, implementation, and operationalization of AI technologies that enhance teaching, learning, research, and institutional effectiveness.

With more than 30 years of experience spanning educational technology, distance learning, digital media, video production, marketing, and technology leadership, Eric has played a key role in advancing innovation across higher education. His career began in television production and digital media, including work as a producer and director for news, sports, and documentary programming. He later transitioned into higher education, where he has spent three decades supporting the evolution of technology-enhanced learning environments.

Prior to his current role, Eric served as Senior Director of Academic Technology Support at Marshall University. In that position, he oversaw classroom technology, collaboration spaces, technology-enhanced classroom innovation, and enterprise academic technology services. He led the launch of the university's IT Training and Engagement team, directed the adoption and support of Adobe Creative Cloud and other institutionally supported academic software platforms, and helped advance faculty and student success through strategic technology initiatives.

Earlier in his career at Marshall, Eric led Digital Media Services, where he spearheaded initiatives in lecture capture, distance learning, digital signage, video management, active learning spaces, and collaboration technologies. He has managed large-scale technology deployments, developed innovative solutions for academic and clinical programs, and led cross-functional teams focused on improving teaching and learning through technology.

Eric is a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications. His professional interests include artificial intelligence in higher education, digital transformation, academic technology strategy, organizational change management, learning spaces, and innovation leadership.
