Frank Lowney

Biography

Dr. Frank Lowney is currently associated with the Georgia Digital Innovation Group, a collaborative initiative of the Office of Faculty Affairs of the University System of Georgia and Georgia College & State University. The mission of the Digital Innovation Group is to facilitate faculty, staff and student innovation in the use of digital technologies to enhance the full range of college learning experiences. Frank is the author of "The Coming ePublishing Revolution in Higher Education." which is available via the Apple iBookstore: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/coming-epublishing-revolution/id579466573?mt=11 This interactive digital book explores the probable futures of ePublishing in higher education, especially eTextbooks. The book also serves as an example of some of the more interesting and pedagogically useful things that can be done with a digital textbook. Not exactly a newcomer to the field of instructional technology, Frank began the GC EduNET Project, an online K-12 outreach project, in 1988 and has been active in exploring how digital technologies might be used to pursue educational goals and objectives ever since. This has included delivering instruction to personnel on Navy ships at sea in the late 90s, pioneering the use of the iPod as an instructional tool in 2002 and developing software to enhance content management and learning management systems in the delivery of video and other rich media, including eBooks.
