Greg Smith

Biography

Greg M. Smith has over two decades of leading transformational technology projects in higher education, government, and commercial entities. Prior to joining eLumin Greg was the the Vice President and General Manager at Aloft by AccelerEd. Greg provided strategy and leadership for the development of student focused cloud offerings. Previously, as the Associate Vice President for Information Technology and Interim CTO at the University of Maryland University College, Greg was responsible for the creating IT strategies that improve the teaching and learning experience for a global student body while maximizing financial and operational resources. He built and implemented UMUC’s cloud-first strategy, migrating four data centers to the public cloud resulting in better service levels for the university community. Greg spearheaded the university’s desktop-as-a-service program that gives distance learners access to educational applications anywhere, on their own device. Prior to his work at UMUC, Greg worked Hobsons, DC Water and Sewer Authority, and the University of Indianapolis. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Mason School at The College of William and Mary and a Bachelors of Social Work from Indiana University.  Greg regularly presents and publishes articles on the cloud enablement and technologies in higher education.
