Dr. Hans Pongratz is the Senior Vice President for IT-Systems & Services and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM) / Technical University of Munich, Germany. TUM's 14 departments welcome over 41,000 students, one third of them women. The university has a budget of EUR 1.3 billion, which includes the university hospital. 545 professors and about 10,000 staff members are engaged in research, teaching and administration at TUM.
Hans Pongratz (*1978) studied computer sciences and economics (Diploma) at TUM and received a doctorate degree for his thesis "IT architecture for the digital Higher Education Institution". After his studies he worked as consultant at FOCUS online and Hewlett-Packard. Since 2002 he also carries out several IT-projects as freelancer. He gained international experiences during a stay abroad at Siemens Corporate Research (SCR) before he returned to TUM as scientific assistant in 2005. Since 2005 he worked in different positions and projects at TUM, e.g. the project elecTUM (Integrated E-Learning at TUM) and as projectmanager of the large-scale project IntegraTUM (building and design of a universal IT infrastructure at TUM). In addition he was head of the sub-project integration within the project [email protected] (introduction of a new Campus Management System from 2008 to 2009. Since 2010 he has the overall responsibility of Campus Management TUM and is Head of the unit Campus-Management-Team. In 2011 Hans Pongratz was elected Senior Vice President "IT-Systems and Services" and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at TUM and is responsible for the consequent implementation of the IT-Strategy "Digital University" at TUM. He is member of several boards, programme committees, reviewer groups and member of the Advisory Board of CIONET Germany.
