Biography

Adjunct Professor Heiko Spallek serves as Chief Executive of the Bureau of Health Information, which is part of NSW Health. He served as Head of School and Dean at The University of Sydney School of Dentistry from 2018 to 2026, working closely with the Faculty of Medicine and Health's (FMH) leadership to promote interprofessional education and research across the FMH schools. Additionally, he was appointed Academic Lead Digital Health and Health Service Informatics for FMH.Prior to joining The University of Sydney, Professor Spallek worked at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine (2001-2016) where he co-founded the Center for Informatics in Oral Health Translational Research and served as its Executive Director as well as Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs (2010-2016). While being faculty at Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia (1996-2000), he earned an MSBA with a concentration in Computer and Information Science from Temple's Fox School of Business and Management. Professor Spallek graduated from the School of Dentistry, Humboldt University Berlin where he received his Dr. med. dent. in the field of dental material sciences and began his academic career in the Department of Periodontology (1993-1996).He is a graduate of the American Dental Education Association’s Leadership Institute and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health.
