Helen Baer

Biography

I work as an Instructional Designer to support course-creation at the University - everything from fully online asynchronous masters degrees to in-person undergraduate courses to short skills-based micro-learning opportunities called "digital badges," or "microcredentials," aimed at building student, staff and faculty knowledge, skills and competencies in higher education. I also lead workshops and support faculty development and upskilling around learning technology and artificial intelligence (AI). I work collaboratively with faculty and staff partners across the University to help them build out their ideas and transform them into effective and engaging learning opportunities that build up to broader pathways and programs. Previously I was Manager of Digital Content and Communications for a Minnesota public policy nonprofit. I have past experience in a Member Office in the US House of Representatives, managerial experience in Sports Merchandise Operations and Customer Success. I am a capable linguist with language proficiency in German, French and Spanish and I have a deep background and love for learning languages. I have also taught foreign languages and the clarinet. I'm a graduate of McGill University with a BA in Linguistics. I completed a minor in Social Entrepreneurship and equivalent coursework for a minor in French language. Outside my professional life, I enjoy staying active through activities such as playing soccer, downhill skiing, biking, kayaking and rollerblading.
