Hank Delcore

Biography

Dr. Henry D. Delcore is a Professor of Anthropology at California State University, Fresno. Dr. Delcore's professional focus is on applying qualitative methods to help organizations achieve their objectives. His research expertise includes institutional and popular responses to agricultural and environmental change in Thailand and design anthropology, an applied approach to helping organizations strategically use qualitative research to develop better products and services. As director of the Institute of Public Anthropology, he connects Fresno State students and faculty with community benefit and for-profit organizations to help them better understand their clients and customers. Dr. Delcore is also a Coleman Fellow with the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where he leads an interdisciplinary initiative that teams undergraduate students from engineering, entrepreneurship and anthropology for new product development. His research into campus facilities and student success includes "The Library Study at Fresno State," a major contribution to ethnographic understanding the evolving role of academic libraries on campus. His service activities include founding board member and President of the El Dorado Park Community Development Corporation, which focuses on improving the quality of life in a distressed neighborhood adjacent to Fresno State. Dr. Delcore has a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Science in Asian Studies from Georgetown University. He recently co-authored, "Indigenous Peoples and the Collaborative Stewardship of Nature," which focuses on institutional innovations in natural resource management.

    Adding to the scant existing research into how students actually use IT on campus, this study yielded a robust data set that included 183 hours of observation and 393 intercept interviews gathered in four specific locations on the Fresno State University campus.
