Biography

Jennifer Marsala is an instructional designer in the math department at the University of Houston, where she works to improve the clarity, accessibility, and professional presentation of course materials. Her teaching experience spans the middle school, high school, and college levels. She has co-authored university math textbooks ranging from College Algebra through Calculus and continues to refine these materials and their associated web content.

She became immersed in accessibility while teaching Precalculus and Calculus to a student who is blind. She has since published a detailed tutorial on typing accessible math in Microsoft Word and presented related work at the 2025 POSB STEM Institute. She serves on the DAISY Consortium’s Working Group on Accessible Math in Word, collaborating with Microsoft to improve Word’s native equation editor.

Beyond her instructional work, she coordinates a worldwide online high school math contest and has written its Geometry exam for over 20 years.
