Jess Bocanegra
Biography
I hold a BS in Chemistry from The College of New Jersey and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Vermont. Since joining the Emmanuel faculty as a Chemistry Lecturer in Fall 2020, I have taught general chemistry lectures and labs while developing a passion for innovative teaching methods.
In my courses, I’ve successfully implemented a blend of standards-based and specifications grading along with a flipped-classroom approach. I am particularly dedicated to inclusive teaching practices, having both participated in and facilitated workshops on deep-teaching and anti-deficit mindset frameworks.
In my role as Senior Instructional Strategies Specialist, I’m always eager to collaborate with fellow educators who are interested in exploring alternative grading systems and instructional strategies. My goal is to help faculty discover and integrate practices that align with their unique teaching styles, fostering more effective and engaging learning environments.
