Jim Noonan
Biography
Jim Noonan is currently Senior Director, Systemwide Infrastructure Services at California State University (CSU) Office of the Chancellor. He received a B.S. degree in Telecommunications and Computer Information Systems from the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute, and M.S. in Telecommunications Management from Golden Gate University. Before joining the CSU Jim served 20 years in the United States Coast Guard where he started his technology career and then moved to the private sector working for DSC Communications, Alcatel, and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
He joined the CSU in 2003 as Director for Network Security & Communication Services at Sonoma State University and in 2007 moved to the Chancellor's Office as Sr. Network Architect. I am responsible for the system wide Common Network Initiative (CNI) program along with WAN connectivity management (via CENIC) for all 23 campuses.
The CNI program provides a standard reference architecture and baseline network technology infrastructure. The program provides for the refresh of 23 campus network infrastructures, including router, switches, security, and wireless technologies, on a cyclical basis to ensure that the network infrastructure continues to keep pace with technology and meet the changing needs of CSU students, faculty and staff.
