Biography
Dr. Hans van Oostrom is a trailblazer in engineering education and artificial intelligence at the University of Florida. As the Interim Director of the AI² (AI Academic Initiative) Center, he is driving UF's mission to weave AI seamlessly into academic programs, ensuring students across all disciplines gain essential AI skills.
With master's and PhD degrees in engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, Dr. van Oostrom has built a legacy of academic innovation. At UF, he has spearheaded the creation of graduate and undergraduate programs in Biomedical Engineering and was the founding chair of the Department of Engineering Education, where he helped establish cutting-edge graduate programs.
Under his leadership, the AI² Center is transforming AI education—training faculty, empowering students with AI microcredentials, and embedding AI across the curriculum, shaping the next generation of AI-powered problem solvers.
