John Vasquez serves as Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success and Senior Director of the Comprehensive Studies Program at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. His work sits at the intersection of educational equity, institutional change, and public accountability, shaped by more than 25 years in higher education building systems that support historically excluded students not just to access college, but to thrive and lead.

John’s leadership spans advising, student success initiatives, and organizational transformation, often during moments of political and institutional uncertainty. He is deeply committed to mentoring as a reciprocal, trust-based practice that challenges power, centers lived experience, and creates space for authentic growth. Through his work, John focuses on disrupting traditional models of mentorship to build equitable support networks that empower emerging leaders and advance inclusive change within institutions.
