John Calkins

Biography

John Calkins joined Northwestern University as Assistant General Counsel in 2005 and has since been promoted to Associate General Counsel. His principal areas of responsibility at Northwestern include intellectual property, technology licensing, information technology, student affairs and athletics.

Prior to his appointment at Northwestern, John was Counsel at Bingham McCutchen (formerly McCutchen Doyle Brown & Enersen) in San Francisco. There he handled intellectual property clearance, prosecution, strategic counseling, enforcement, litigation, and transactional matters for a variety of clients, including several universities.

John received a B.A. in Biology from Williams College and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California and Illinois and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
