John Dixon

Biography

John is the Chief Information Officer for Francis Marion University and is responsible for overall management and delivery of University-wide IT services. John has over 30 years of experience in higher education, 26 of which have been in IT leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lee University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His IT experience has been primarily focused on changing, building, and growing mid-size campus technology environments. From 1988-2003, he served as the director of information systems riding the wave of networking while establishing a data center, performing a complete system conversion, instituting a premise-based telephone system, and growing the technology to accommodate the expansion of 13 new buildings and a student growth of 200%. From 2003-2007 he led another campus in the complete overhaul of an aging network environment and laid the foundation and put into motion the structure for a complete ERP system upgrade. From 2007 to the present, while at Francis Marion University, he has established campus-wide standards for hardware and software, initiated the redesign and upgrade of the network infrastructure, moved all physical servers to a virtual environment, consolidated two disparate mail systems into Microsoft's Exchange platform, completed an ERP system conversion, and developed security policies while implementing fundamental IT practices. He continues to lead Francis Marion University's IT vision to establish technology solutions in support of the campus community and the advancement of the University's mission.
