Biography

John J. Sherlock

My career spans more than four decades working in industry and higher education.  During the 1980’s and 90’s, I worked in the wireless industry leading teams of 100+ and managing multi-million dollar budgets focused on research, public policy, and technology that helped foster the massive expansion in wireless applications. Working in academia for the last 25 years, I’ve taught at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, chaired dozens of doctoral dissertations, authored over 20 publications, and delivered more than 65 scholarly and professional presentations. As faculty at Western Carolina University (WCU), I served as director of the Master of Science in Human Resources program for 17 years. Now on phased retirement from WCU, my current interests focus on research of AI in higher education and working with organizations to help them responsibly harness AI to build effective, ethical, and human-centered workplaces.
