
Jack Corliss
Biography
A 30-year veteran in academic computing, Jack works at Loyola University Chicago in Information Technology Services as the manager of teaching, learning and research services. His recent projects have included implementation and migration to Blackboard Enterprise Learning System at Loyola. As the system administrator, in collaboration with Dr. Carol Scheidenhelm, Learning Technologies and Assessment, Academic Affairs, Jack is currently directing the project to upgrade the learning system to version 7.2. Jack is also managing the implementation of a pilot project using Sakai online collaboration and learning environment, including the open source portfolio tool. Jack has worked on various projects within EDUCAUSE beginning with the EDUCOM/AAHE project that created Rights and Responsibilities for Electronic Learners statement (project was led by Dr. Frank W. Connolly, American University) in 1993. He served on CAUSE/Effect Editorial Committee, 1993-1996. Now Jack is the primary representative for Loyola for EDUCAUSE and ELI. He has given workshops on development of acceptable use policies, and deterrence and detection of electronic plagiarism, and talks on educational technology (portals and portfolios) and copyright issues, e.g., TEACH ACT. Having earned his masters in research methodology, Jack is presently working on his doctorate in curriculum, instruction and education policy. Jack conducted a qualitative analysis of acceptable use policies at educational and research institutions that was reported in Ethics of Computing: Codes, Spaces for Discussion and Law, edited by Jacques Berleur, SJ and Klaus Brunnstein, published in 1996 on behalf of the International Federation of Information Processing. Jack has served as the secretary/information officer for Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) Conference on Information Technology Management for past twenty years. Jack considers as his major achievement at Loyola his working with over 250 graduate students on their masters and doctoral research providing technical assistance in statistical computing and in research design using quantitative and qualitative methods, and have provided similar technical assistance to faculty and clinical researchers at Loyola University ChicagoEDUCAUSE Presentations
