John O'Brien

Biography

John W. O'Brien is a Network Architect in Information Systems and Computing at the University of Pennsylvnia. He is responsible for the Network Names & Numbers service for the University, which includes DNS, DHCP, NTP, IPAM, and management tools, as well as relationships with registrars and registries. John has significant experience in software engineering, systems administration, and modern platform and network technologies. He focuses on campus and WAN network architecture, infrastructure, protocols, distributed systems, and services and has an abiding passion for driving the adoption of IPv6 and DNSSEC.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, John is a frequent contributor to and sometimes maintainer of open source projects, particularly the FreeBSD Project and its ports collection.

John holds a B.S. summa cum laude in Electrical and Computer Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a member of the Merit Network IPv6 Readiness Program Advisory Board.
