Joe Lazor

Biography

On February 1, 2012, Joseph A. “Joe” Lazor assumed the position of Executive Director of FLR, Florida’s research and education network designed explicitly to support the most demanding network connectivity needs. FLR is an independent research and education network owned and operated on behalf of the FLR partner institutions and Affiliates of the Florida LambdaRail, LLC, a not-for-profit limited liability corporation. FLR’s 1,540 miles of fiber provides direct connectivity to a wide range of domestic and international research networks, including the Internet2 and the National LambdaRail (NLR) networking infrastructures. With 30+years of experience, Joe is no stranger to information technology and network infrastructures in federal, state, higher education and research environments. Formerly Director of Information Technology Services at Florida State University, Joe has extensive expertise in developing, implementing and aligning strategic and operational plans with business operations. He has been directly involved with FLR since it was established, working closely with the founding members to design and implement FLR as well as serving as the proxy for Florida State University since 2004. His background also includes Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer for the State of Florida Technology Council, Chief Information and Technology Officer for Florida State University Institute of Science and Public Affairs, and several executive leadership positions within the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of State. He is certified in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology (CGEIT), Information Security Management (CISM), and Information Technology Infrastructure Library Foundations (ITILv3F). Joe brings a mix of leadership, technological expertise, experience with advanced research and education networking, and awareness of the advocacy issues surrounding the diverse communities FLR serves. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.S. in Management, specializing in Information Systems from Embry-Riddle University.
